Our Game Plan

Our goal is to ensure all children and youth in our community have the opportunity to play, learn and develop through sports.

At the OSEG Foundation, we believe that by sharing our passion for sports through structured youth development programs, kids will have an opportunity to excel and reach their full potential.

Together, with our coaches and players from the Ottawa REDBLACKS and Ottawa 67s – the OSEG Foundation will develop programs and initiatives that get more kids off the sidelines and into the game.

Mission: The OSEG Foundation will be a catalyst for social change by leveraging the power of sport to improve the lives of children and youth.

Special Campaign

Girls in Sports

Numerous studies have shown that girls are less physically active than boys and face significant barriers to participation – especially girls of color and girls of low socioeconomic status. OSEG Foundation programs, such as Girls on the Run, work to mitigate these barriers by empowering girls to know and activate their limitless potential. We envision a world where every girl is free to boldly pursue her dreams and reach her full potential!

Campership Funds

Every child deserves the opportunity to experience camp. The OSEG Foundation Campership Fund works with local summer camps to provide children and youth, who may otherwise due to financial barriers be unable to attend, benefit from this experience. Camp provides children and youth with a safe and nurturing environment to connect, grow, and create lifelong memories. There is no better and more important time to offer a positive and potentially life-changing experience to the next generation.

Equity Through Diverse Impact Grant

The OSEG Foundation EDI Grant assists to remove financial barriers by offering organizations support in enhancing their inclusive practices to ensure all youth have equal opportunity to participate in sport and recreational programming. We seek to support organizations and programs that support and/or are led by different dimensions of social diversity (race, class, gender, sexuality, disability, nationality, religion, language, etc).

The OSEG Foundation EDI Grant provides $5,000 to Ottawa-based organizations that are using the power of sport to support marginalized children and youth in the community.

REDBLACKS Mentorship Program

The REDBLACKS Mentorship program aims to help at-risk youth from vulnerable communities with high rates of failure to graduate (42% at program inception) and high rates of poverty (31% vs 13% overall in Ottawa) by connecting youth to Ottawa REDBLACKS players who will act as athlete mentors and role models to inspire the youth to pursue their dreams.

Many of the Ottawa REDBLACKS players attribute their own personal and professional success to coaches and mentors they’ve had along the way and are looking to “pay it forward” to the next generation.

Youth participating in the program are black and multicultural between the ages of 14-18, living in low-income communities, in complex family structures, who have experienced racism and discrimination.

Youth will benefit from mentoring relationships with Ottawa REDBLACKS players who share lived experience, can promote a strong cultural identity and provide encouragement, support, guidance and strategies for the youth to reach their fullest potential.

The program will help reduce the risk of youth engaging in risky behaviours such as dropping out of high school, conflict with the law, or violence in the community and increase youth sense of self-worth and self-agency by:

  • Widening youth access to activities in the broader communities with an emphasis on personal development and positive experiences
  • Providing youth with networking and employment opportunities
  • Removing financial barriers to engaging in personal growth opportunities

St. Mark High School – All-Girls Tackle Football

History was made on April 29th, 2019 as the OSEG Foundation welcomed the St. Mark High School all-girls tackle football team to play on the field at TD Place as a Canadian first! These girls have made a statement that girls can tackle anything and sport for all is part of our community.

The OSEG Foundation was honoured to host the players, coaches, staff, and fans for a great afternoon of football to support their progress on a beautiful Spring Day!

What a tremendous achievement locally, regionally, and nationally to inspire youth to pursue sport equally because at St. Mark, these girls ask, “WHY NOT US?”

We Support Local Charitable Initiatives

The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group, the OSEG Foundation and our sports teams – the Ottawa REDBLACKS and the Ottawa 67’s  – are proud to support local charitable initiatives that give more children and youth the opportunity to engage in sport and sport development. Over the last year, we have partnered with a number of local organizations to create positive social change.

One of the most notable partnerships involved the refurbishment of the educational and learning areas at the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre School. The OCTC school serves medically complex and technologically dependent students in kindergarten through Grade 3. The upgrades, which incorporate fun activity zones, murals, interactive exploration walls and creative learning spaces – are designed to help improve the everyday learning and therapeutic experience of the students. The OCTC school renovation project was a collaboration between the Smilezone Foundation and the Ottawa 67s.

The Ottawa REDBLACKS are deeply committed to investing in our young athletes and growing the sport of football, and to that end over the last three years we’ve contributed over $350,000 to minor football programs in our community. As an extension of that commitment, the Ottawa REDBLACKS and the OSEG Foundation are hosting a series of Coaching Clinics, giving minor football coaches like you access to professional coaching staff and the opportunity to learn new skills and techniques for all levels of play. Additionally, through the Coaching Clinics you will be exposed to key strategies that will help with practice organization, offensive/defensive and special teams drill selection and overall fundamentals of the game.

The first REDBLACKS Football Coaching Clinic was hosted on April 14, 2018 with 135 minor football coaches taking part resulting in 1,080 hours of coaching instruction. The coaches will be sharing the skills and techniques they learned with approximately 4,050 children and youth in our community.
